School Excursion Program

The Culture and Diversity of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Our program for 3 years+ (Kindergarden), Yr 1 - 6 (Primary) & Yr 7 - 12 (Secondary)

This program engages students in immersive, indoor and outdoor learning experiences where they explore the cultural and historical significance of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, discovering their profound impacts on health and disease prevention.

Our program begins with an informative introduction, followed by an engaging presentation that illustrates the holistic principles of Chinese medicine. Students then embark on a guided tour, visiting our herbal garden and treatment facilities, where they can even cultivate herbs to bring home. The highlight of the excursion is witnessing live acupuncture and cupping demonstrations, offering a firsthand glimpse into these ancient healing practices. The children can do a tai chi or qigong class and try their hand at calligraphy. Extra topics can be covered on at the teachers request.

    • We begin in our dynamic community space, where students can explore 12 meters of vibrant murals and the beautifully curated displays showcasing a rich tapestry of historical, reference, and medical examples of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

    • Following this, we deliver an introductory talk on the cultural and historical significance of acupuncture and TCM, supported by our interactive displays and informative videos.

    • We then give a talk on what TCM encompasses, such as accupuncture, cupping, tongue diagnosis, herbal medicine etc and how the TCM approach to wellness is that “prevention is more important than cure”.

    • We visit our on-site clinic and explore the gardens, including the herbal garden. Students will be able to design their own pot plants and cultivate their own Chinese herbs to take home.

    • A presentation is given on Chinese tea culture and students can see how Chinese tea is traditionally brewed and what types of tea are used.

    • Using the mirrors on the mural and the illustrative examples of tongue diagnosis, students can inspect their own tongues, encouraging a sense of curiosity.

    • The highlight of the excursion is a live demonstration of acupuncture and cupping treatments to students.

    • Children can learn tai chi or qigong — gentle, relaxing exercises that balance emotions and encourage mindfulness. These ancient practices support overall wellbeing, helping children feel calmer, more focused, and confident in themselves.

    • We have a fun quiz sheet where students can test the knowledge they have learnt.

    • Plus, many more interesting hands-on experiences and activities for students
