Hawthorne tea
Hawthorn fruit has many distinctive characteristics. It is sour and sweet with a lovely red and mildly purple colour. It is commonly used in cooking and for making tea. Tanghulu 糖葫芦(táng hú lu), one of the tastiest treats originating from Northern China, is often enjoyed during winter and is made with hawthorn on sticks coated with hardened sugar. Hawthorn is also an important herb used in many Chinese medicine formulas.
